Chairman Parks called the meeting to order at 7:11 PM.  Chairman Richard Parks, Greg Dalling, Vice-Chair, Director Beth Taylor and Admin Manager Bush were present. Secretary-Treasurer Fuhrmann attended via Zoom. Director Klein was absent. Maria Koppelberger was present as a member of the public.

 

Administrative Manager Bush presented the April meeting minutes.  Vice-Chair Dalling moved to approve the April minutes. Director Taylor seconded the motion. No discussion was needed; all voted in favor; none opposed. Motion passed. Administrative Manager Bush presented the current expenses and financial reports for the month. Director Taylor moved to approve the current expenses and financial reports.  Vice-Chair Dalling seconded the motion.  No discussion was needed; all voted in favor; none opposed. Motion passed.

 

Maria Koppelberger presented to the Board her work for Leadership 49 MSU Extension.

She made an information sheet that explains the Gardiner resort tax with the intended audience of area residents. See attached handout.

 

In Old Business, Chairman Parks updated the Board on his conversation with the District’s attorney regarding placing the Ordinance on the ballot in May 2025. As the District has been in place for ten years, the Ordinance is eligible to be renewed, extended or made permanent. Annexation of additional areas into the District could be more involved. The next steps include the Board making decisions as to which direction they want to move and beginning the process to apply to MT Dept of Commerce for boundary approval. Vice-Chair Dalling suggested that the Board make some decisions at the June meeting regarding changes to the Ordinance and the ensuing upcoming ballot measures necessary. Continuing with Old Business, Chairman Parks confirmed he will attend, virtually, the upcoming Resort Tax Association meeting on May 21st.

Admin Manager Bush updated the Board on collections and began discussions concerning the annual Rodeo held in Gardiner as well as other community events that may or may not charge admissions and/or be considered as luxury items. Also, it was agreed that the District’s attorney will contact one business in particular who refuses to register and collect the tax.

Finally, Director Taylor updated the Board on the availability of an MSU Extension agent to facilitate public meetings. She will check with them regarding availability for September 2024.

 

There was no New Business.

 

There was no Public Comment.

 

The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, June11th at 7:00 PM at the Gardiner Chamber.  Director Taylor moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:57 PM. Vice-Chair Dalling seconded the motion. No discussion was needed; all voted in favor; none opposed. Motion passed.
