October 2024

Chairman Parks called the meeting to order at 6:34 PM.  Chairman Richard Parks, Secretary/Treasurer Bob Fuhrmann, Director Beth Taylor, Director Bianca Klein and Admin Manager Bush was present. Vice-Chair Dalling was absent. Several members of the public were present – see the attached lists.

 

Chairman Parks presented the September minutes. Secretary/Treasurer Fuhrmann moved to approve the September minutes. Director Taylor seconded the motion. No discussion was needed; all voted in favor; none opposed. Motion passed. Admin Manager Bush presented the current expenses and financial reports for the month. Director Taylor moved to approve the current expenses and financial reports. Director Klein seconded the motion.  No discussion was needed; all voted in favor; none opposed. Motion passed. Admin Bush reminded the Board that many of last year’s appropriations have not been billed as of yet.

 

Chairman Parks adjourned the business meeting at 6:37 PM. The public meeting facilitated by the MSU Extension Office commenced. See the attached agenda. Highlights from the meeting are described below.

 

MSU Extension agents explained the process for the meeting; a brief history of the resort tax was given, noting the 10th anniversary of its passage in Gardiner. Because of reaching this milestone, the Board has the opportunity to place any changes or updates the public feels are appropriate on the upcoming ballot in Spring 2025. The public meetings are being held to solicit input on what is working, what isn’t working and/or what should be changed. The meeting continued with a Kahoot game to verify the knowledge of the crowd concerning the tax. The three scenario’s that surfaced in Public Meeting #1 were explained and the public was given time to comment and vote on them. Those scenarios included the season of June – September, the sunset date of 2034 and the resort district boundaries. Some additional thoughts surfaced from public comments.

 

A third public meeting will be held virtually; date to be determined.

The Board will then consider all public comments and will hold additional meetings if necessary. Regular meetings will continue with the upcoming appropriation cycle.

 

There was no additional Old Business.

There was no additional New Business.

 

Additional public comment included a thank-you to the Board for all the work done.

A reminder was given concerning the upcoming appropriation cycle – applications are due in by October 31st.

 

The next regular Board meeting held will be on November 12th at 7:00 PM at the Gardiner Chamber of Commerce. The December meeting date is December 10th. Secretary/Treasurer Fuhrmann moved to adjourn at 8:24 PM. Director Klein seconded the motion. No discussion was needed; all voted in favor; none opposed. Motion passed.
